Governor Gavin Newsom Issues New Executive Order
Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California public health officials issued an updated policy on gatherings to protect public health and slow the spread of COVID-19. The state’s public health experts have determined that gatherings should be postponed or canceled across the state until at least the end of March. Non-essential gatherings must be limited to no more than 250 people, while smaller events can proceed only if the organizers can implement social distancing of 6 feet per person. Gatherings of individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 should be limited to no more than 10 people, while also following social distancing guidelines.
The executive order also removes waiting period for unemployment and disability insurance for Californians who lose work as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, readies state to commandeer hotels and medical facilities to isolate and treat COVID-19 patients and allows local and state legislative bodies to hold meetings via conference calls while still meeting state transparency requirements. President Donald J. Trump Restricting Travel from Impacted Areas
President Trump is taking further action to curb the spread of the coronavirus to the United States from other countries by issuing a proclamation under section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) to restrict travel to the United States from foreign nationals who have recently been in certain European countries. The restriction applies to foreign nationals who have been in the Schengen Area, 26 countries in Europe with open borders agreements, in the last 14 days. Those who are exempt from these restrictions, such as American citizens, will be directed to a limited number of airports where screening can take place. View the full remarks by President Trump.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reminds the public, those who are at high risk and those with underlying diseases to continue to prepare for possible disruptions in daily activities. All are advised to:

- Have enough household items and groceries so that you will be prepared to stay home for a period of time;
- Make a plan for child care in case you or a care giver are sick;
- Make arrangements for how your family will manage a school closure;
- Make a plan for how you can care for a sick family member without getting sick yourself;
- Understand your employer’s policies regarding leave and options for working from home;
- Take everyday precautions like avoiding close contact with people who are sick, cleaning your hands often, and to the extent possible, avoid touching high touch surfaces in public places; and
- Avoid crowds especially in poorly ventilated spaces;
