Update on December 29, 2020
Throughout the rain event, the Monrovia Public Works team continued to monitor Monrovia Canyon Park. There were some light and expected movement of rocks and boulders along the road, but the neighborhoods of Ridgeside and Oakglade Drives were not affected. We do not anticipate any rain for the remainder of the week.
If you have a moment to step outside today, the rain did leave us with some beautiful snow-capped mountains!
Update on December 26, 2020
Forecasts are calling for a rain event throughout the Los Angeles County area to begin in the late evening and overnight hours on Sunday, December 27, and continuing through Monday, December 28. Initial forecasts are calling for rainfall totals up to 3/4 “ in the foothill areas. As this is the first significant rainfall of the season, City staff, as well as the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, have been monitoring the forecast in anticipation of mud and debris flow in the burn area from the recent Bobcat Fire.
In preparation for the rain, the LA County Department of Public Works has issued a Phase I Mud and Debris Forecast for the area of Monrovia that is in the neighborhood of Ridgeside Drive and Oakglade Drive. A Phase I forecast indicates the possibility of minor to moderate flooding and mudflow/sediment deposition on these streets and below burned hillsides.
If you reside in these areas, please travel with caution. Those who do not live in the neighborhood of Ridgeside Drive and Oakglade Drive are asked to avoid the area.
In the event that there are mud and debris flow, both the LA County Department of Public Works and City of Monrovia Public Works will mobilize resources to respond to any mud and debris flow activities.
