Licensed Contractors can now submit through SolarAPP+!

What is SolarAPP+?

SolarAPP+, short for Solar Automated Permit Processing, is an online web portal that automates the plan review and process for issuing permits to qualified licensed contractors to install code-compliant residential photovoltaic (PV) systems. SolarAPP automatically performs a compliance check on inputs supplied by the contractor to ensure the proposed system is safe and code compliant.

SolarAPP+ is designed to provide a code-compliance check for the majority of residential, roof-mounted, retrofit photovoltaic systems. Some of the types of systems that SolarAPP+ is currently not able to be used for includes ground mounted, new construction and non-residential (i.e. multi-family, commercial, community, and utility-scale projects).

Installation practices, workmanship, and conformance to the approved design are then verified by the City Building Inspector through the inspection process.

SolarAPP+ Eligibility Requirements

 Before applying for a SolarAPP+ automated solar plan review, projects must follow certain requirements outlined in the Eligibility Checklist. Only projects that conform to this list are eligible to use the automated SolarAPP+ portal for instant permitting.

SolarAPP+ Submittal Process (3 Simple Steps)

1. Submit for review through SolarAPP+ and obtain permit

• To start you will need to register, submit design, and pay permit fees through SolarAPP+. (Please note that a processing fee will be charged by SolarAPP+ for plan review.)
• Once SolarApp+ has approved the design, download SolarAPP+ Approval Documents. (This includes your Permit and Inspection Checklist)
• There is no need to apply for a separate City of Monrovia Permit as the SolarApp+ Permit is considered the Permit.
• Once your project is approved through SolarApp+ and the fees have been paid, the City’s Permit Technicians will automatically receive your approved documents and will create a City of Monrovia Permit. (Please note if you would like to receive a copy of this permit, you may contact the Building Division)
   
  2. Schedule An Inspection

• Once ready for inspection, schedule an inspection by calling (626) 932-5581.
• Please make all inspection requests by 3:00 p.m. prior to the requested day.
• Upon the inspector's arrival, it is required to have a set of the approved documents and the issued permit available at the project site.

3. SolarAPP+ Revisions

• If a revision is necessary, please submit the revision through SolarAPP+. Once processed in SolarApp+, you will be provided with a downloadable revised SolarAPP+ Approval Document. Please have these revised documents available at the project site.
