Monrovia Fire & Rescue is committed to the future fire services through our Fire Explorer Program. The Explorer Program is intended to provide youth with experiences that connects them to the real world along with their academic endeavors. Monrovia Fire & Rescue offers an opportunity for young men and women to participate in activities relating in the fire service. The lessons and exercises serve as instruments to aid young people in developing their moral selves, which in turn improves their capacity for leadership and other life skills. While the implementation of the program is predominantly associated to the fire service, generalization of skills learned is applicable to the future of the explorers. The participant can use their experience to further advance their goals towards the fire service or utilize the skills they have learned to better themselves while pursuing a greater role in the community.
The mission of Explorer Post 112 is to train and assist young men and women in their pursuit of becoming a career firefighter. The goal is to instill values intertwined in the activities through the education, exposure and experience gained in the fire service. The program is designed to teach the youth to live the DREAM. Living a life of:
- Discipline - a life of determinative willingness
- Reason - a perception grounded in truth and clarity
- Ethics - a compass to convey truth
- Action - a duty to act
- Motivation - a drive to experience purpose
Requirements
The Explorer Program provides equal opportunities regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental handicap.
Age
Any person, male or female between the ages 15 to 20, and have completed the eighth grade, are eligible to participate in the Monrovia’s Fire Explorer Program. Minors under the age of 18 must have written consent from their parent or legal guardian. Upon his/her 21st birthday, he/she is no longer eligible for the program.
Education
All explorer must maintain a minimum of passing grade in each class and must graduate from high school or its equivalent to remain in the post. College-level courses are highly recommended and explorers are advised to continue a higher level of education while involved with the program.
Parent or Legal Guardian Approval of Minor
A parent of legal guardian written consent is required on all application forms prior to acceptance into the post.
Health
Explorers must be in good health. If for any reason an explorer is on medication or under a doctor’s care, the explorer is required to notify the advisor/training staff. All applicants are required to have an updated annual physical examination submitted to the post in order to participate in any activity.
