  • Can I sign up for a library card online?

    Get an E-Library Card to give you instant online access to free ebooks, audiobooks, job resources, homework help, and more! Simply click the Sign-Up button found in the upper right corner of our library catalog. Complete and submit the form, and a library card number will be emailed to you within 1 to 2 business days. Standard library card policies apply. 

    You can also get a library card in-person during regular library hours. Please see staff at the Customer Service Desk in the Lobby for assistance. A picture ID and proof of current address is required to sign-up for a library card.

    How do I access my account?

    You can access your account online through our library catalog. Login in the upper right corner with your library card number (found on the back of your card under the barcode) and your pin (most likely the 10 digit phone number you created your account with).

  • What kind of digital resources do you offer?

    What kinds of digital resources are available?

    We have great online resources that are available 24/7. You have access to job resources, homework help, assistance for Veterans, encyclopedias (in English and Spanish), ebooks, audiobooks, and more.

  • I have a reference question to ask, who do I contact?

  • How can I use the Library computer?

    There are 11 computers for youth and 14 computers for adults. All the library's public access computers were made possible by a generous donation from the Hoffman family and the Library Foundation. In addition, the library's broadband internet service is made possible thanks to funding from the California State Library, which funds the CENIC Broadband Project for public libraries and schools across the state.

    The use of computers is available to Monrovia Library cardholders. Identification with California residency is required to obtain a library card with computer privileges. For more information see Library Staff at the Customer Service Desk.

    • Youth computers: Minors under 18 for filtered access only
    • Adult computers: Patrons 18 and over, or minors with parental permission for unfiltered access

    HOURS OF OPERATION:

    Monday – Wednesday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    Thursday – Saturday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

    LIBRARY CARDS
    As a charter member of the Library of California, the Monrovia Public Library will provide a free library card to anyone who resides in the State of California.  Identification and proof of residency are required. Ask at the Customer Service Desk for specifics regarding I.D. requirements.

    You are responsible for all materials checked out on your library card and any fines and/or miscellaneous charges that accrue on your account.  Library cards are not transferable and the physical card is required for checking out materials.

    Lost cards must be reported to the library immediately.  Failure to report the loss of your card means you are responsible for any subsequent fines and other charges that accumulate.  Card replacement: $2.00.

    Change of address must also be reported immediately.  Identification and proof of residency must be presented to verify address change.

    CHECK OUT LIMITS
    Teachers: (School I.D. required) 30 total adult items for 3 weeks
    40 total children’s items for 4 weeks

    Adults & Children: 30 items (Print, CDs, DVDs, Other)

    Telescopes: check out for 7 days; borrower must be 18 years or older. Telescopes are not renewable.

    OVERDUE FINES
    Printed material: $0.15 per day per item; maximum fine is $5.00 per item.

    Audiobooks & Music CDs:  $0.15 per day per item; maximum fine is $5.00 per item.

    DVDs:  $0.15 per day per item; maximum fine is $5.00 per item (DVDs are FREE to check out).

    Telescopes: $5.00 per day per item; maximum fine is $25.00 per item.

    Fines of $50.00 or more will temporarily suspend library privileges until full or partial payment is made.

    All fines must be paid within three months or library privileges will be denied.

    RENEWALS
    Materials may be renewed twice by phone, online or in person as long as they are not overdue, on hold for another patron, or have exceeded the maximum loan period.

    HOLDS

    Holds may be placed on checked out items by phone, online or in person.  There is no fee for holds. You have 5 working days to pick up your item after you are called.

    INTERLIBRARY LOAN
    Patrons in good standing may request books from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. There is a non-refundable fee of $5.00 to place the request.

    LOST & DAMAGED ITEMS
    Printed material: Cost of the item plus $6.00 non-refundable processing fee.

    All audio/video: Cost of item plus $6.00 non-refundable processing fee (for complete set).

    Lost items that have been paid for and are found undamaged within 6 months will have the cost of the item refunded.  Processing fees are non-refundable.

    MINOR DAMAGE/LOST FEES
    Library’s plastic covers/cases damaged/lost  $5.00
    Item barcode damaged/lost  $1.00
