 Handshake The Police Department relies on volunteers as an important component of our team to supplement the services we provide. Below are volunteer opportunities for people of all ages and skill sets: 

Reserve Police Officers

Reserve police officers are an important part of our team at the Monrovia Police Department. We currently have two active reserve officers, and their duties include a variety of police-related responsibilities. Chaplains

Monrovia Police Department Chaplains are all certified pastors and spiritual counselors, who must go through an extensive background assessment. The mission of the Police Chaplaincy is to serve both Police Department Staff and members of the community of Monrovia.

What They Do

  • Counsel peace officers, other members of the department and their families
  • Visit sick and injured officers and department personnel in home and hospital
  • Make death notifications
  • Provide assistance to victims
  • Assist with Chaplains for At-Risk Youth (CARY) Program
  • Equip officers in areas such as stress management, ethics, family life, pre-retirement
  • Serve as part of the Crisis Response Team
  • Assist at suicide incidents
  • Serve as liaison with other clergy in the community
  • Provide for the spiritual needs of prisoners
  • Furnish answers to religious questions
  • Offer prayers at special occasions
  • Serve on review boards, award boards and other committees
  • Deal with transient and the homeless

Monrovia Police Explorers

Teenagers and young adults interested in learning more about what it takes to become a police officer may be eligible for a position as an explorer.

Want to learn about a career in law enforcement? By becoming a Monrovia Police Explorer, it allows you to learn about law enforcement as you ride along with police officers on patrol. To be eligible, you must be age 14 to 20, must be attending school, maintain a G.P.A of 2.0 or higher with no failing grades, attend scheduled meetings, and pass an interview and background check.


Citizen Patrol Volunteers

Monrovia community members interested in applying as a Citizen Patrol volunteer will work in the field providing critical help in the areas of traffic control during traffic accidents, vacation checks in residential neighborhoods, vehicle impounds and many other jobs.
