What does SB 1383 mean for me?
The City and Athens Services, your exclusive franchise hauler, implemented Monrovia’s Organic Waste Recycling Program, which means residents can now place all organic waste into their current green bin. Food and yard waste that is collected in your green bin will be diverted from landfills and recycled to produce compost, mulch and clean energy.
How to Participate:
- Ensure your property has a three bin collection service. One green bin for organic waste, one black bin for landfill and one blue bin for recycling.
- Begin placing all organic waste into the green bin.
- Place your green bin at the curb each week for collection.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you live in a community with active wildlife and currently use a black trash bear bin, place edible food in your green bin if you feel comfortable doing so.
To minimize impacts from and to wildlife:
- Place your organic waste in a clear bag and then place the bag into your green bin
- Freeze your organic waste until collection day and then place your organic waste in your green bin
- Request a green bear barrel bin from Athens Services: (888) 336-6100
